PROPER INGREDIENTS ARE REQUIRED

Theater is like a dish, where director plays the role of the chef and all that he require is proper ingredients to make a perfect one says expert stage actor and director Bimal Banerjee in an interview with HT CITY.

Born in the year 1941, in the Sitarampur city of West Bengal Bimal always wanted to be a vocal singer, because all her sisters and brothers were into the field of music. But they did not praise him much and then he thought of doing something different.

Reasoning behind the limited vision of our theater today, Banerjee says, “We are responsible for it, we don not have any tuning with our audience because now-a-days what we prepare is unprepared work and most importantly we need discipline and devotion and have to forget individuality and work in a team.”

The actor/director has worked for all kinds of scripts. But his personal favorite is humor based. He has acted in more than 100 plays and directed around 30 plays in Bengali and Hindi. He has also done more than 2300 radio plays for AIR (All India Radio.)

The actor loves to do fishing and kite flying in his free time. He loves to eat sour things. Recalling his childhood days, Banerjee says, “I remember I used to go to zoo and eat tamarind which I used to pick from the trees.”

Some of his famous plays include Avem Inderjit, Andha Yug, Aadhe Adhure, Aashad ka Ek Din and Hostel. He has also directed some serials like Shehar Chala Kasbe Ko and Saath Rang Sharad Ke Sang.

B.V.Karant, Vijay Tendulkar and Balraj Pandit are some of the people whom he loves to follow as his role model.

Talking about the commercialism in bollywood today, he says, that is a different field altogether and they work only for money. They don’t think what is good or bad for society they just think about filling their pockets” he adds.
