THEATRE IS MY PASSION

Innovation distinguishes clearly between a leader and a follower says Chitra Mohan, a well known stage director and actor of the city.

Chitra was born in Allahabad and did her graduation from there itself. After which she moved to Lucknow to pursue her post graduation from Lucknow University.

 Chitra Mohan did her diploma from BNA in 1985 and stood first in her batch. She did her internship at BNA and got appointed as Teacher in 'Classical and Modern Indian Drama' at BNA in 1986.

Reasoning her keen interest for theatres, she says, “It is my passion, because it is live interaction with your audience, there are no further retakes, or no rewind or fast forward like television.”

Chitra has acted in more than 40 plays and directed more than 50.Now she has become more choosey towards acting and has shifted her interest solely towards directing.

She has received National Youth award in 1994. She was also awarded as the Best Children's Director in the international children's festival held at Delhi.

Some of the popular classical plays directed by her include Abhigyan Shakuntalam, Urubhangam, Bhastrayi, Bhagwatajjukiyam, Court Marshall, Shanti Ras Barse, Khoobsurat Bala and Phir Sudhi Aayi Kabir Ki.

She has also raised a voice towards women empowerment with some of her plays like Hame Chahiye Pankh Salone and Ham Katputliyan Nahi Bijliyan Hai.

Soon she is going to design costumes for Darpan theatre festival next month.
